Weldable lifting points (lifting eyes) with overall loading – again decisively improved!
Attaching up-to-date and approved lifting points to every machine is not only the recommended by the European machine guidelines, it reduces extensive handling costs. Using the correct lifting point not only is time saving, but the workers’ safety is considerably increased. Knowledgeable designers and buyers know that buying lifting points that are designed around safety, as well as functionality are worth every penny. This fact has also been backed up by the large quantities of the weldable variant RUD-RBS (VRBS) sold over the last 30 years. These weld-on lifting points have numerous advantages: First, the weldable eye plate design of the RBS can be easily positioned to lay flat against a level surface. Second, the combination of a die-forged and tempered ring plate (made of high-tensile steel) and two solidly welded welding blocks allow an easy attachment of the lifting ring with a relatively low complex welding seam and maximum WLL of up to 50 t.
One of the biggest disadvantages with the previous style of welding point was that it consisted of one-side open hood welding blocks. These blocks were cheaper to produce, but had some drawbacks. The open design allowed water to penetrate in to the cavities, causing corrosion. Due to the open welding hood, no continuous weld could be applied to the point with maximum load. Despite clear indications in the welding instructions, the distances between welding blocks and ring plate considerably varied, resulting in a possible increased safety risk. These issues no longer exist due to the newly patented version of VRBS-FIX.
The new version VRBS-FIX is identical in length and total width to the previous VRBS, but with significant improvements. The VRBS-FIX can still withstand the same lifting capacity and a smaller continuous weld seam can be applied. A special grooved design on the ring plate pins and in the bearing bore assures a distinct distance, “E” dimension and an added friction effect of the ring. The Clamp spring is protected by being placed inside the weld-on block; the spring fixes the weld-on block to the ring, keeping it securely in place. This combination of the special spring reduces noise and vibration considerably. There are indentations or markings on the ring and the block, which help the user see the angle of the sling on the ring and the angle of the lifting eye on the blocks.
All formerly existing attachment sizes have been maintained, allowing the new improved version to be easily incorporated into existing designs; the overall height is the only dimensional change from the previous version, because there is a slight height increase, this will have to be reviewed at to see if it is a direct replacement for all current applications. 3D data is available under www.rudchain.com
